Specters of the Void

Take a peek at this brand-new fiction blog, beautifully written by my young niece!

Specters of the Void

Chapter 1

The wind whispered to the shadows as he passed over their heads. From far above, the moon cast down small beams, as if to see who could converse in such low tones as her hearing could not reach. But alas; it would seem that her eyesight was no better than her hearing, for she could see no more than pines shifting softly in the breeze. Disappointed, she returned to her watch of all things heavenly and earthly, as it is fitting for any moon who wishes to keep his or her reputation as a poetic and somewhat mysterious being. But, as you shall soon see, this moon had much more to do with the dark land of the pines then she ever could have imagined.

The first thing I noticed was that I was extremely cold. The second, that I was lying on my back, most definitely on a hard, positively…

Lambing in Sweden 2015

Lambing in Sweden 2015

feltingandfiberstudio

Our guest author/artist today is Zara Tuulikki Rooke.  She recently shared the experience of shearing her sheep with a note that Spring will bring new lambs. So, today we share her experience of the birth of new lambs.

Spring has arrived (according to the calendar), which means the lambing season has started. Most sheep become receptive to mating in the autumn, when the length of daylight starts decreasing, and have their lambs in the spring, after almost 5 months of pregnancy (on average 145 days). However, some breeds are less seasonal, and can be manipulated with artificial light to mate at other times of the year. The Most Beautiful Cars of 2015

I’ll take one Porsche to go, please.

The-Most-Beautiful-Cars-of-2015As the saying goes, beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, and while some cars are universally agreed upon to be the delightful to the eye, many others are considered to be as visually appealing as the prospect of spending six months in Orange Is The New Black’s SHU. The Business of Freelancing, Blogging, and Books, According to Author Jennifer Armstrong

The WordPress.com Blog

First, I should note: I am not related to Jennifer Armstrong. But! I have followed her writing closely over the years — first during her years at Entertainment Weekly, and more recently as the author of books like Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted (Simon & Schuster), which offered a definitive history of the classic TV series. Her blog also happens to be a must-follow on WordPress.com: She gives glimpses into her current work (she’s doing a Seinfeld book next) and she’s refreshingly transparent about the business (and hard truths) of being a freelance writer in 2015. I spoke with her via email about the business of writing and tips for how she makes time for her own blog.

What is Writing 101?

Writing 101 is a four-week course that runs from Monday, April 6, to Friday, May 1, 2015. Each weekday, you’ll get an assignment that includes a writing prompt and an optional “twist”; prompts are your topic inspiration for the day, while twists push you to experiment with writing techniques and tools.

Who else is really building their writing habit?… I wake up multiple times each night to check the time and see if it’s time to get up and write because I’m so excited. I’ve never felt this way before! I think I’m in lurve.
